Following the initiative from the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IFM) MCMB started in 1995 genetic analysis of VNTR loci which was followed by introducing DNA profiling, together with IFM, into Slovenian forensic medicine and criminology.
Supportive research projects:
- Interinstitutional national research program P1-0104 Functional Genomics and Biotechnology for Health (R. Komel); 1999-2004 and 2004-2008.
- Isolation and analysis of mitochondrial DNA from various biological materials at forensic investigation: Slovenian-Macedonian Bilateral Project (no. 13; 2006-07). Medical Centre for Molecular Biology, Faculty of Medicine UL, Ljubljana, Slovenia (R. Komel) & Medical Faculty in Skopje, FYR Macedonia (A. Duma & G. Mijovski), 2006-2007.
Faculty/clinical partner:
- Institute of Forensic Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ljubljana (Prof. Jože Balažic, M.D.).
Translation:
In the period 2003-2005 DNA profiling was introduced at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, and was in 2005 also officially adopted as a legal procedure for personal identification and family relationships and as a procedure that provides legal DNA evidences for criminal proceedings in Slovenia.
